We wanted to take this opportunity to thank the community for the outpouring of support following David Summergrad’s unexpected departure. We are aware of the varied emotions people are experiencing at this point. To this end, we have been talking with students in their classrooms, speaking with teachers, and making ourselves available. [...]

Over the past few weeks, children have been weighed and measured at Runkle School. This is a mandate from the state in an attempt to deal with the problem of childhood obesity. Research supports that lower rates of obesity occur in children who are identified to be at risk when they receive early intervention.

Ms. Leonard’s second-grade class has started a community effort to visit the MSPCA (Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) with supplies. Greater Participation in Any Amount May Help Avoid Cuts in Programming and Support
Currently, 48% of Runkle families (168) have donated a total of $49,890 to the Annual Fund campaign. Although this is a great accomplishment during these challenging times, it only puts us at 76% of our goal of $65,000.
Last month we had our annual “evacuation” drill, which was orderly and successful. We practice these things so that if there were a real emergency we will all know what to do, and so that everyone can be safe. This month we will have our annual “Lockdown” practice. This involves children staying quietly in classrooms, until the “all-clear” signal [...]
Dear Runkle Families,

If you have already given to the PTO Annual Fund, thank you for your early support! For those of you who haven’t, we still need your participation. Currently, a total of 109 families (31% of the Runkle community) have donated a total of $31,580 to the Annual Fund campaign, putting us at almost half-way [...]
