18-10Dear RUNKLE Families,

We are very happy to report that support for the PTO Annual Fund 2017-18 is off to a great start. Please look out for flyers going into the children’s backpacks this week. Giving Tuesday is November 28th and we hope that all of our Runkle families will donate on or before this date. We are thankful to the families who have donated already this year. Every gift helps us reach our goal and helps our students grow. Please click here to donate.

Many Runkle students have been getting their hands dirty and getting in some sunshine and outdoor learning in our beautiful outdoor classroom and native garden this fall. The Kindergartners have been pairing up with their 8th Grade partners for nature observation and they both enjoyed a joint field trip to Hall’s Pond Sanctuary. Many of the 1st Graders have been acting as good stewards, harvesting herbs and planting garlic bulbs. 4th Graders in Ms. Convicer’s class and all of the 2nd Grade classes have “tuned in” to nature during a parent volunteer-led nature object study. The younger grades have been helping the Parks Department plant daffodil and tulip bulbs at the front of the school. Lot’s of happy bustling children were eager to help out!

This year there has been a huge interest in taking care of the courtyard from both teachers and parents. Runkle parent Jenette Restivo has spearheaded projects to encourage more use of this invaluable space. If you are interested in volunteering for garden-based projects please email Jenette Restivo (jenetterestivo null@null yahoo NULL.com). THANK YOU Jenette!

There are still a few PTO volunteer coordinator positions that need to be filled:

  • Runkle After School Coordinator (RASP) – ideally the interested coordinator should shadow the current coordinator Devon Powell (rasprogram null@null hotmail NULL.com) during the Winter/Spring classes, and be ready to take over in September 2018.
  • FoPA coordinator – please read the article in this newsletter for details.
  • METCO representative for Runkle.

Have a great Thanksgiving week!
