Dear Runkle Families,

Welcome to the 2017-2018 academic school year at the John D. Runkle School. I hope you all had a restful and rejuvenating summer. This has been a busy summer for me. I have been meeting with teachers individually as well as many parents and community members. The informal meetings have allowed me to learn more about what makes Runkle School a special place to work and learn. I am honored to join the Runkle team.

It is my pleasure to support the great work as the principal of Runkle School. I have been an educator for 22 years and served as a teacher and principal, all of which have strengthened my abilities to work with teachers, administrative staff, students, and their families to enhance teaching and learning. I have experienced that when educators collaborate with each other in a professional learning community, have honest conversations about learning and teaching, the result is academic and social success. It is for these reasons I share my core values with you today and I am excited about the opportunity to work with an organization that meets these needs.

I value expanding student knowledge in a wide variety of real world experiences that will increase their language, understanding and appreciation of themselves and others.

I believe in an effective system, which examines people’s strengths and areas for growth and respectively and honestly delivers feedback that will help meet those needs.

I believe in an organization that systematically, analytically and explicitly delivers instruction that allows room for the learner to explore and question.

I believe the collaboration with colleagues, students, families, and the community in the work of teaching and learning will benefit our society. With your support, I am confident we can continue the efforts of sustaining a professional learning community in which adults work collaboratively. I am excited about what this school year will bring as we embark on a prosperous school year. I look forward to working closely with all of you to create a place where children are supported, valued, provided opportunities for enrichment, and challenged to reach their potential.

Soon you will be provided with paperwork from our district office that we will need returned. Please review the information in order to prepare your family for a great start to a new school year. I hope you find the information useful and I look forward to meeting you all soon! I would also like to inform you of our new staff members.
