Dear Families,

Opening Night for the 8th Grade Play, “John Lennon and Me,” is less than two weeks away!  The play is a story about teenagers in a hospital setting coping with both life-threatening medical conditions as well as traditional adolescent issues.  (We are advising for our younger students and their families that due to the mature themes of the show, parental discretion is advised.)  Our 7th and 8th Grade Social Studies teacher Shira Schwartzberg, is once again directing our play, and the cast and crew have been putting in many hours of rehearsals these past two months.
Ms. Schwartzberg and our Guidance Counselor Rebecca Sneider organized a panel discussion that was held during Advisiory this past Monday for our 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students so that the students can have a better understanding of the medical conditions that are explored in the show.  The panel consisted of experts in the areas of cystic fibrosis, diabetes, and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV).  This presentation was most informative and was complemented with perceptive questions from our students who were focused and engaged throughout.  As students were leaving the multipurpose room, many gravitated towards both their Health and Science teachers asking more questions or simply keeping the conversation going.  Both the play and this panel discussion are great examples of how we can create meaningful and memorable learning opportunities for our students.  Thank you to Ms. Schwartzberg and Ms. Sneider for their efforts!
“John Lennon and Me” will be performed Thursday December 1 at 7 pm, Saturday December 3 at 7 pm, and Sunday December 4 at 2 pm.
Best Thanksgiving wishes to all,
Jim Stoddard
