Last weekend we had several of our middle school students audition for the Massachusetts Music Educator’s Association Eastern Junior District Festival.  Students are scored on a variety of abilities, including sight-reading, performing scales, and peforming vocal or instrumental solos.  Congratulations to all involved for “stepping up” for this ver competitive challenge and Congratulations to 8th graders Jasmine B. and Harrison C. on being accepted to the Junior District Chorus!

Spirit Week starts Monday with one of my favorites, Pajama Day!  Spirit Week is courtesy of our Student Council, which is made up of 6th-8th graders elected by their peers.  The Runkle Student Council seeks ways of fostering Community within our K-8 school and has also provided an avenue for the Principal to get feedback from and problem-solve with students on school-related themes.

We are now completing the paperwork in the hiring process for our new Grades 5 and 6 Elementary World Language (Spanish) teacher.  We hope to announce this hiring early this week.

Attention all 5th grader families!  The Brookline Educator’s annual 5th Grade Spelling Bee is scheduled for Sunday, March 13 at 1 pm at BHS.  5th grade families should have received an email last week from the BEF with more details.  Last year’s winning word, by the way, was a 10-letter word starting with ‘c’ meaning ‘changing often and quickly, in mood or behavior’…
