Runkle School is proud to offer a variety of options for Music Education, which we call “Conservatory,” in our middle school grades.  Students and their families select a Conservatory music option ( http://www NULL.surveymonkey NULL.com/s/6M2S6BN), which meets twice weekly.  Please discuss with your child the different options listed below.

Grades 6-8 Band
Students will perform music from a variety of genre’s and styles.  The Runkle Band will perform a minimum of 2 concerts per year.  7th and 8th grade band members have the opportunity to audition for MMEA Eastern Junior District Festival.  Prior experience playing a band instrument is recommended.

Grades 6 -8 Chorus
Students will perform music from a variety of genre’s and styles.  The Runkle Chorus will perform a minimum of 2 concerts per year.  7th and 8th grade chorus members have the opportunity to audition for MMEA Eastern Junior District Festival.

Grades 6-8 Orchestra 
Students will perform music from a variety of genre’s and styles.  The Runkle Orchestra will perform a minimum of 2 concerts per year.  7th and 8th grade orchestra members have the opportunity to audition for MMEA Eastern Junior District Festival.  Prior experience playing a string instrument is recommended.

General Music
(Grade 6 only)  Students play instruments (percussion, keyboards and/or guitars, depending on interests and ability) alone and in small groups to reinforce note reading and ensemble skills. Students compose music for solo instruments and small group ensembles.

Music Production
(Grades 7 & 8 only)  Students use software (Garageband) and hardware (MIDI Keyboard) to perform and compose music.  Please be advised that there is a limit of 25 students for this class, with priority given to 8th graders.
